Safety Exit

Maria House

by Traci King Landon, MBA on July 01, 2023

Over the years, AGAPE has seen the need for more robust and tangible support for teen mothers in foster care—young mommas who also need mothers. Like all our youth, and even more so, these teen moms need a parent's love and guidance for their development and to provide a model of how to parent their child.  As AGAPE’s foster care program has grown, our families providing care have become more confident and courageous in their ability and calling to serve pregnant and parenting teens.

AGAPE shares the stories of two Marias, one a former foster teen mom and the other an infant, born to a foster child of 14 at just 24 weeks. Both stories, in other circumstances, could have ended in tragedy. Still, thanks to loving foster families and the support of church communities, both Marias were shown the love and support to allow them the chance they deserved to thrive against the odds of their situations. These Marias are the inspiration for the new name of a program in the Clarksville area that will serve pregnant and parenting teens. These two cases opened AGAPE's eyes to the power of community and influence to affect the outcomes for foster families and the children they serve.

Through the generosity of an anonymous donor, AGAPE has purchased a spacious house in the Clarksville area where a single foster mom has agreed to care exclusively for teen girls and their babies. As AGAPE prepares to open the Maria house this summer, opportunities are available to bless the home with furnishings and resources to make this house into a home.
