It Takes All of Us: A Reflection on National Adoption Month

by Emily Traylor on November 25, 2025

I recently had the privilege of witnessing my first adoption proceeding with one of AGAPE’s foster families. I’ve always loved the idea of adoption; it's a radiant picture of the gospel, of God choosing us and calling us His own. That truth has never grown dim to me, and I was excited to experience it firsthand.

When the ceremony ended, the attorney and judge invited everyone forward for a group photo. I was stunned by how many gathered: parents, grandparents, friends, caseworkers… and me. I hadn’t played a role in this particular story (I’ve only been on staff for three months, and not even in Social Services!) and yet somehow, there I stood, woven into a moment that was bigger than any one of us.

And suddenly it struck me: it wasn’t only the beauty of adoption that moved me, but the beauty of dozens of people rallying around a single child, each whispering the same sacred message: You matter.

Because it truly does take all of us.

Some of us are the adoptive families.
Some of us are the supportive grandparents and friends.
Some of us are the caseworkers and counselors.
Some of us are the attorneys and judges.
Some of us are the fundraisers and storytellers.
Some of us are the volunteers and mentors.
And some of us are the sacrificial donors.

Together, we form a holy gathering of people willing to leave the ninety-nine for the one, welcoming each precious child with open arms and unreserved love.

So as we look ahead to the end of the year, I invite you to consider the part you play in this picture. Maybe God is calling you to open your home to a child in foster care. Maybe He's calling you to step out in faith and seek training to be a counselor or caseworker. Maybe He's calling you to sponsor a child for Christmas or to give sacrificially to AGAPE's mission.

Whatever your yes is, we are honored to partner with you in this holy work.
