In August of last year, Camila and Kerriah, competitive middle school gymnasts from the Nashville Gymnastics Training Center, contacted AGAPE with a desire to support kids in foster care. We met with the girls and Camila’s father, Felipe, to share the work of AGAPE and learn about their passion for serving.
After our meeting, they took it upon themselves to raise funds that would benefit children in AGAPE’s foster homes. They developed a presentation and went door-to-door in their neighborhoods asking for donations that would allow them to purchase backpacks and fill them with items like coloring books, stuffed animals, toothbrushes, etc. Because of their hard work and enthusiasm, they raised more than $1,100! They purchased and filled nearly 2 dozen backpacks to give to children who come into our care. With the remaining amount, they’ve chosen to sponsor a child in foster care to attend weekly gymnastics lessons for one year at the Nashville Gymnastics Training Center.
They came back to our office at the end of January to deliver the items they had purchased and share the stories of their fundraising efforts. We have been blown away by the girls’ tenacity and their desire to serve other kids! We appreciate the time and effort they put forth and the generosity of each individual who donated to them.
