Dr. Danny Camp joined AGAPE in 2014 as a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT). He has blessed the lives of countless individuals through his work at AGAPE, and we are thankful for his compassion, empathy, and approachable demeanor. Continue reading the Q&A below to learn more about Danny and his role at AGAPE.
Describe your role at AGAPE:
I am a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT). I work with couples and individuals on a variety of issues. Due to nearly 30 years in full-time ministry before transitioning to counseling, I also do a lot of work with people who have spiritual issues and church-related trauma.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
Premarital counseling. I love seeing couples, but especially couples who are at the beginning of their relationship and still discovering each other.
What about your work might surprise people?
Our job is not to dispense advice. Our job is to give people the tools and confidence to make their own best decisions. Also, every client and every situation is different, so there is no cookie cutter approach to therapy. Proverbs 14:10 says, “Each heart knows its own bitterness, and no one else can share its joy.” I have seen this truth from God’s Word played out over and over in the counseling room.
What motivates you?
My wife, my children, my extended family, and my church family are my most constant sources of motivation.
What have you learned since joining AGAPE?
My wife tells me I am a perpetual student, so I am always researching, watching, listening, and trying to learn new things. I have been blessed to learn new tools and techniques from many of my colleagues, and I have been blessed to learn new things from my clients.
Do you have a favorite memory from working at AGAPE?
My favorite memories are centered around the MaP trainings (Ministry and Psychology), Prepare-Enrich, TTI (Therapist Training Institute), and other training sessions that I’ve been blessed to lead or participate in.
What do you like to do for fun?
I love to go on trips with my family. I enjoy building projects (although it typically takes me about twice as long as it should to complete them), and I am also an avid comic book collector who loves just about all things pop culture.
Tell us a little about your family:
My beautiful wife, Lisa, and I will be married for 25 years this September. We have three wonderful children, Chloe, Macie, and Holden, who are growing up quickly and beginning to launch out on their own.
