Claudia Hallquist, M.S., LPC/MHSP, is one of the most thoughtful people you’ll ever meet. As a counselor here at AGAPE, it is evident that Claudia cares deeply about her clients and fellow co-workers. We recently asked Claudia a few questions about her work, and we’re excited to share her answers to help you get to know her better!
Describe your role at AGAPE:
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor – Mental Health Service Provider (LPC-MHSP) and I am a Clinical Services Coordinator. As an LPC-MHSP, I provide mental health counseling to those struggling with different mental health diagnoses and those who need a listening ear. As the Clinical Services Coordinator, I handle the inbox that receives all of our employment, practicum, and internship applications or inquiries. I previously served as a counseling intern with AGAPE.
When did you join AGAPE?
I joined AGAPE in May of 2017 as a Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern while I was working on my master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lipscomb University.
What’s your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of my job is seeing clients discover their worth and value, therefore empowering themselves to take steps toward growth, health, and healing. There is nothing like celebrating growth, health, and healing with them!
What about your work might surprise people?
I learn so much from my clients. I’m human too, so seeing fellow humans work so courageously to be their healthiest self for themselves, their families, and their friends helps me to remember that I have to do the same work in my own life!
What motivates you?
My relationship with Christ motivates me in every aspect of my life. It helps me to be the best wife, daughter, sister, friend, coworker, and counselor that I can be. I believe that God opened doors to allow me to become an LPC-MHSP at AGAPE, and I could not do what I do without my relationship with Christ. The unconditional love that Christ shows me enables me to show His love to those I work with.
What have you learned since joining AGAPE?
I have learned how needed mental health counseling is. I think I knew it was needed before the COVID-19 pandemic, but since then, it has become even more of a reality how great the need is for everyone, and I mean everyone. I have also learned about the purpose of the work that we do at AGAPE and how each of the departments can support each other in our different areas of serving others.
Do you have a favorite memory from working at AGAPE?
My favorite memory from working at AGAPE is probably the wedding shower that the staff gave me when I got engaged. I felt so loved and supported as this absolutely was not something that had to be done. I so appreciated everyone taking time to celebrate with me. The community the staff and employees have at AGAPE is something special.
What do you like to do for fun?
In a non-pandemic world, I love to dance, travel, and spend time with my friends and family. In the COVID-19 pandemic, I have found that I love spending time at the dog park with my husband and our precious pup.
Tell us a little about your family:
I met my husband, Ryan, in December of 2017. We dated for a little while before getting engaged in November of 2018. We then got married in July of 2019! We also have a golden retriever who we love very much! We are close with both of our families who live here and also out of state.
